I have been on my own Nutritional Journey for many years now. I would say that I started as a teenager, but didn't really realize it. I officially, knowingly, started my journey at about age 35. In my 20's I had a knee surgery. The doctors told me I would never run again. Being active my whole life, I did not know how to proceed from there. I had to figure out life from a sedentary view, which I did not do very well. It took about 9 years before I decided to try running again. Best thing I ever did! 20 years later, I have completed 4 Ironman races and have two scheduled for this year.
During the 9 years that I wasn't very active, I didn't change how I ate and I gained a lot of weight. When I look back now, that was a huge hint as to how I was treating my body. It wasn't until about 6 years later, when I was graduating with my Maters of Public Administration, that my lifestyle was very evident. Ulcerative Colitis was now my way of life. Again the doctors told me this was my way of life from now on and that I would be on medication for the rest of my life and nothing had to change. I wanted a better answer and life for myself, so I researched, learned and changed how I ate to try and help myself. After 10 years of holding my Ulcerative Colitis at bay, I finally had a clean colonoscopy - my Ulcerative Colitis is in remission! This was not an easy process and it was a lot of trial and error, but I am super proud of this accomplishment. Then the opportunity to become Certified Nutritional Therapy Practitioner presented itself and here I am. My goal is to help others bring nutrition into their lives to help improve their lives and provide people with the knowledge to do the things they want to do in life, no matter their age. So here I am, 15 years later, working with Tiana Rockwell NTP, writing and developing The Wellness Program. We are working hard to create a program that anyone can use to improve their health, no matter where they are in their nutritional journey.
